This 5 days tour is your ticket to the top sight-seeing tour of Peloponnese and mainland Greece!
We enter Peloponnese through the Corinth Canal which separates it from the Greek mainland. Through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth.
We continue our trip with a visit to Ancient Corinth where is the temple of god Apollo, an ancient theater and the meeting point of merchants in the antiquity, the Forum or Agora.
Then we go up to the great walled gates of the Acropolis of Corinth, Acrocorinth, overlooking the Corinthian gulf.
Next we visit Ancient Epidaurus, where is the Asclepeion sanctuary, the most celebrated healing center of the Classical world. It was then that the huge theatre, which seats 14,000 people and is well known for its exceptional acoustics was built. The theatre regularly operates today during the summer.
The end of the first day will find us next to the sea, at the romantic Nafplion.
In the morning, we see the water castle of Bourtzi, located in the middle of the harbor of Nafplio and of course the Venetian castle of Palamidi.
Next we go up to the country of the king Agamemnon, Mycenae. Walk through the Cyclopean walls and the remains of the Palace, enter into his tholos tomb and see the Lion Gate a unique sculpture of Bronze Age Greece.
We will spend the second night in Ancient Olympia. Next morning we’ll see the many religious and secular buildings and structures, constructed, during its golden age, in classical Antiquity. Olympia recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site was also known for the gigantic ivory and gold statue of Zeus that used to stand there, sculpted by Phidias, which was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world.
Delphi, had a phenomenal influence in the ancient world, thus recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, housed the Temple of Delphi, the Sanctuary of Apollo, where the “adyton” was, the centre of the Delphic oracle and seat of Pythia.
By evening we reach Meteora. Here, at an impressive rock formation in central Greece hosting six monasteries built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area, we’ll spend our fifth day.
As we head back we make one final stop at Thermopylae (known as the Hot Gates). It is there where the world-famous battle took place, between the 300 Spartans and the invading Persian forces. The Hot Gates, “the place of hot springs”, from which the pass derives its name, still exist close to the foot of the hill and in Greek mythology it is the cavernous entrances to Hades.
This tour offers you a marvelous 5 days long trip around Greece.
