We enter Peloponnese through the Corinth Canal which separates it from the Greek mainland. Take some pictures of the narrow Isthmus of Corinth that connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. We continue our trip with a visit at Ancient Corinth where we will visit the temple of god Apollo, and will see an ancient theater and the meeting point of merchants in the antiquity, the Forum or Agora.
Going on, we will visit the country of the king Agamemnon, Mycenae. Walk through the Cyclopean walls and the remains of the Palace, enter into his tholos tomb and see the Lion Gate a unique sculpture of Bronze Age Greece.
Our evening destination is Nafplion, one of the most romantic cities of Greece. Enjoy the view of the water castle of Bourtzi, located in the middle of the harbor of Nafplio and see the Venetian castle of Palamidi.
In the morning we leave for a recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Ancient Olympia. In classical Antiquity, the golden age of the site at Olympia, a wide range of new religious and secular buildings and structures were constructed. Olympia was also known for the gigantic ivory and gold statue of Zeus that used to stand there, sculpted by Phidias, which was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world.
Delphi, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in having had a phenomenal influence in the ancient world. The ruins of the Temple of Delphi, the Sanctuary of Apollo, visible today, date from the 4th century BC, inside was the “adyton”, the centre of the Delphic oracle and seat of Pythia.
One of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine architecture and art, will be our last stop, the Monastery of Osios Loukas. One more of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, a historic walled monastery will complete our beautiful 3-day tour.
